Amendment 1
- States that no law be made that singles out a religion and that we are free to practice the religion of our choice. We have the freedom of speech and freedom to print information for distribution. We have the right if we have a problem and need assistance or want to complain to the government, we can without getting punished for it.
- It is used by the modern printing companies to print books for people to read and to print text books for people to learn in school.
Amendment 2
- We are given the right to own our own weapons and use them if it needs be to defend ourselves and to use in a militia.
- This amendment is now used in schools around the U.S. because it is now a law that every teacher have a gun in case of intruders that have the intention to kill.
Amendment 3
- At any time during war or peace soldiers are not allowed to live in somebody's house without their consent
- This amendment has not been violated since 1982 in the supreme court case, Engblom Vs. Casey. New York correction were evicted form their homes on prison grounds during a strike and then National Guard members were brought in to live there.
Amendment 4
- Nobody, especially the police is aloud to search your home without a warrant from a judge and a good enough cause to do the search and seizure or make an arrest.
- My dad had a bounced check from a couple years ago, they had to get a warrant for a arrest for him to be made. (Don't worry, it all got settled before he got arrested)
Amendment 5
- No person can be persecuted for the same crime twice. You are not compelled to witness for yourself in the court of law and you "have the right to remain silent". No one is deprived of life, liberty, or property without it being considered "fair" first. Also, nobody is to take away your private property for private use without the act being paid money for it.
- Companies that want to build things " public good" in the way of houses will pay for them to move to a new house.
Amendment 6
- Everyone has the right to a speedy and fair trial that follows all rules and regulation and is not delayed or prolonged. You are prosecuted in the state that you committed a crime. You are told what your being accused of, have the right to a lawyer, and you are confronted by the witnesses against you.
- When in trial if you cant afford a lawyer you are given one but if you can, you have the right to hire a lawyer to defend yourself.
Amendment 7
- Everyone has the right that when they are being tried there is a jury there.
- The 7th amendment is used today in civil cases, people are assigned jury duty where they hear evidence, and determine which ones are weighted.
Amendment 8
- Government can not give you ridiculous fines or bails if you get thrown in jail. Cruel and unusual punishment is illegal and unconstitutional.
- The death penalty is used when someone commits a serious enough crime and the death they imply on the person is quick and painless.
Amendment 9
- Everyone has necessary rights that are not listed in the other 8 amendments. We have unenumerated rights. To only list a few rights would be dangerous because that would suggest that the list stops there.
- We have the right to make health decisions about our bodies even though it doesn't say that specifically any where in the constitution.
Amendment 10
- States use powers that are not given to the federal government and your rights cannot taken control over.
- Each state can make laws about schools in their states. Like Missouri schools are required to take the MAP test.
Amendment 11
- The federal court cannot hear cases that are dealing with a citizen of one state suing another state.
- Obama violated the 11th amendment by trying to sew Arizona for trying to enforce federal laws.
Amendment 12

- It explains the procedure for how the electing of the president and vice president is to be conducted.
- Every four years, citizens cast votes for the members of the United States Electoral College directly elects the president and vice president.
Amendment 13
- Slavery is abolished and is considered illegal unless it is being used as a punishment for a crime.
- Slavery did not end in 1865, 18,000 people in the U.S. are human-trafficked every year.
Amendment 14
- Everybody born or is a legal permanent resident in the United States are considered citizens. No state can make a law that denies a citizen protection.
- A person that moves from a different country has the same right to receive citizenship as a natural born citizen.
Amendment 15

- All citizens of the United States have the right the vote, it doesn't matter what skin color, race, or if you were previously a slave.
- Everybody can go and vote if they are 18 years of age or older.
Amendment 16
- Congress has power to taxes out of your paychecks.
- Every citizen who has a job gets an amount of money taken out of every paycheck.
Amendment 17
- The people of each state will elect two senators for six years. Anyone that votes in state elections may vote for the senator of that state.
Amendment 18
- This amendment prohibited the distribution, sell, and consuming of all alcohol in the United States. This amendment is no longer in effect.
- This amendment is no longer in effect and you can now buy alcohol if you are 21 years of age.
Amendment 19
- This amendment gave women the right to vote instead of just men.
- Nowadays women mostly have the same rights as men and can still vote.
Amendment 20
- The terms of the President and the Vice President ends on January 20 at noon. The next presidential term then begins.
- After President George W. Bush's term ended on January 20, and President Obama was sworn in.
Amendment 21

- The 18th amendment was repealed and the selling and drinking of alcohol was made legal again.
- If you are 21 years of age or older you are aloud to buy and drink all alcoholic beverages.
Amendment 22
- A President cannot hold the office of President for more then two terms. Any previous President cannot run for office again.
- President Barack Obama was elected in the previous election to run for president for four more years.
Amendment 23
- This allows citizens to vote for people to represent them in each state. They elect the President and Vice President of the United States.
- President Barack Obama was able to be elected because citizens voted for representatives in each state.
Amendment 24
- Prohibits states and congress from having you pay a certain amount of money in order to vote.
- All you have to do now to vote is be 18 years of age or older and be registered in your voting area.
Amendment 25
- When the President dies or gets impeached the Vice President takes over as President.
- When John F. Kennedy was assassinated, Lyndon B. Johnson took over.
Amendment 26
- At the age of 18 years of age or older, you can vote. No state deny you to vote at that age.
- This past election many 18 year old's were able to go and vote for the President of the United States for the first time.
Amendment 27
- The salary of the members of Congress shall at no time go up or down at any given time until the next term of office of Representatives starts.
- Today's House of Representatives have the same salary for 2 years.
